Arizona United SC drops match to the Portland Timbers FC 2
Posted on July 2, 2015 10:47 pm by soccerPORTLAND, Ore. (July 2, 2015) – Arizona United Soccer Club saw its winning streak come to an end on Thursday night following a 3-1 loss to the Portland Timbers FC 2.
T2 scored the opening goal in the 10th minute when Jeanderon played a ball forward. Kharlton Belmar timed him run to perfection and broke through the Arizona United SC backline on the left side. He dribbled into the box from the left wing and curled a shot into the far post.
Four minutes later, T2 countered and a combination play between Safiu Fatawu and Andy Thoma allowed Fatawu to slice through the Arizona United defense. He then took a touch and rifled a shot past a diving Carl Woszczynski.
Arizona United SC’s first chance to cut the T2 lead in half came in the 62 minute when Milton Blanco played a piercing through ball to Jonathan Top, who dribbled toward the net and fired a screamer that was blocked by goalkeeper Andrew Weber. Top collected the rebound, but was denied again when T2 defender, Thoma, jumped in front of the shot was blocked what looked like Top’s fourth goal on the season.
Arizona United SC continued to push for a goal and found one in the 74th minute on George Malki’s first professional goal. Tyler Ruthven curled a cross to the back post. Long Tan got a touch and redirected the ball on frame. Weber got the initial save, but Malki was there for the easy tap in.
T2 put the match out of reach in the 85th minute when Seth Casiple finished Blair Gavin’s cross from the right wing.
The loss drops Arizona United SC to 8th place in the USL Western Conference standings.
