Arizona United SC Extends Winning Streak To Three Following 1-0 Win Over Austin Aztex

AUSTIN, Texas (April 11, 2015) – Arizona United Soccer Club (3-0-0) improved upon its perfect start to the 2015 season on Saturday night. The club picked up its third USL victory after defeating the Austin Aztex (2-2-0), 1-0, at House Park. Forward Long Tan scored the match winner in the second half from Brad Stisser’s assist and goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski earned his first shutout.
The victory is another impressive result from Arizona United SC, who have won its first three matches on the road. The club has one more scheduled road match, April 18 at Orange County Blues FC, before it makes its home debut at Scottsdale Stadium on April 25 against the Portland Timbers FC 2. Arizona United SC took control of the match before the halftime break and resumed its dominace at the start of the second half with high pressure from the midfielders and forwards. The tactic paid off in the 49th minute when the Austin Aztex were forced to play back to their goalkeeper, who cleared the ball forward. Stisser, brought on at the start of the second half, was able to redirected the ball down after he jumped in front of the clearance.
Defender Damian Rosales beat two Austin Aztex players to be ball and he played a through ball to Stisser on the wing. He charged towards the box at an angle and played a square ball to Long Tan, who redirected the ball into the top corner for the lone goal in the match.
Tan looked to double his goal count less than 10 minutes later after midfielder Joey Dillon sliced through the Aztex backline in the 58th minute. Dillon picked his head up and played a low cross to Tan, who was too strong on the touch as the ball flew over the crossbar.
The visitors continued to keep apply high pressure, which created chances for Stisser in the 61st minute and Tan in the 73rd minute. Unfortunately for Arizona United SC, Stisser’s shot sailed wide and Tan’s shot was saved.
Arizona United SC played suffocating defense over the final 20 minutes of action and thwarted any Aztex attack with timely defending to told on for the victory.
Arizona United SC makes its home debut at Scottsdale Stadium on April 25 against the Portland Timbers FC 2 at 7:30 p.m. PT.
