SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (August 4, 2015) — Arizona United SC (10-13-1) looks to extend its two-match winning streak on Saturday, September 5, against one of the hottest clubs in USL: Real Monarchs SLC (4-13-8). Kick off from Scottsdale Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m. Gates will open at 6:30 p.m. and parking around the stadium is free.
“Coach made some changes formation wise and it’s been helping us out a lot,” said midfielder Jose ‘Chiva’ Cuevas. “We’ve been clicking and have been more dangerous up top. Even defensively, with ten players we’ve gotten the job done (in the 2-1 win over LA Galaxy II).”
Real Monarchs SLC comes into Saturday’s match riding a three-match winning streak of their own. In that span, Real Monarchs have outscored their opponents 6-2. They are led by forward Max Rauhofer with seven goals, and forward Emery Welshman with six goals and one assist.
“I feel it’s going to be a difficult match because we know we have some pressure on us, especially being at home,” said Cuevas. “(Real Monarchs) are a team in form, and it doesn’t matter where a team is at on the table when a team is in form.”
Arizona is led by forward and franchise scoring leader, Long Tan, with thirteen goals and two assists on the season. Behind Tan on the roster is forward Jonathan Top with three goals and three assists, and forward Dennis Chin with three goals and two assists.
The last time the two clubs met, United squeaked out a 2-1 win over Real Monarchs. Long Tan scored the match’s first goal in the 53rd minute. Then Real Monarchs equalized in the 82nd minute with the help of an Arizona own goal. Midfielder/defender Scott Morrison saved the evening with a 90th-minute tally to give Arizona the three points.
