Arizona United SC’s second half comeback falls short against the LA Galaxy II
Posted on August 9, 2014 10:59 pm by Arizona United Soccer Club CommunicationsCARSON, Calif. (Saturday, August 9, 2014) – Arizona United Soccer Club staged a second half comeback, but its efforts fell short losing to the LA Galaxy II 3-2 at the StubHub Center on Saturday night.
Trailing by three goals in the second half, Arizona United SC cut away at the LA Galaxy II lead in the 60th minute on Paolo DelPiccolo’s diving header that was served up from Brad Stisser’s cross on the left wing.
Eleven minutes later, Arizona United SC reduced the LA Galaxy II lead to one when Long Tan headed home his third goal of the season from a Matt Kassel free kick.
As Arizona United SC pushed forward for the equalizer goalkeeper Evan Newton came up with back-to-back saves inside the box to preserve the one goal deficit. Arizona United SC had a few chances in the dying minutes of the match, the best from a Sam Garza shot in the 90th minute that was saved, but time expired on the visitors before an equalizing goal could be found.
With the loss, Arizona United SC is now 6-12-5, tied for 13th place in the USL PRO regular-season standings, and five points out of a playoff position with five matches remaining.
Arizona United SC will travel to OKC Energy for a Thursday showdown before returning home to host the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at the Peoria Sports Complex at Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased here.
