Dennis Chin and Long Tan score in club’s second USL victory

CARSON, Calif. (April 2, 2015) – A second half equalizer from Dennis Chin and Long Tan’s goal in stoppage time completed Arizona United Soccer Club’s second half comeback on Thursday night against the LA Galaxy II at the StubHub Center Track & Field Stadium.

Down a goal at the start of the second half, Arizona United SC emerged from the halftime break and aggressively attacked the LA Galaxy II in the midfield. The aggression paid off in the 52nd minute when the LA Galaxy II were forced to play the ball back to the defense. The attempted back pass was played to no one, which allowed Tan to charge at the LA Galaxy II net unmarked. As Tan attempted to round the goalkeeper the ball was cleared out for an Arizona United SC corner.

Jonathan Top stepped up and curled the corner kick to the far post. Tyler Ruthven headed the ball back into the box, and Chin redirected the ball into the back of the net for his second goal in as many matches.

Arizona United SC continued to push for the match winning goal by attacking the LA Galaxy II down both wings as the match progressed and the payoff occurred in stoppage time when Chin dribbled through three LA Galaxy II defenders on the left side. He cut into the box and passed to Tan who hammered a low shot into the back of the net.

Arizona United SC’s strong second half masked a less than stellar first half performance. Arizona United SC enjoyed a strong run of play at times, but couldn’t find the right combination in the attack. The LA Galaxy II, who were just a tad better over the first 45, went up a goal in the 19th minute on a quick counter attack by forward Bradford Jamieson IV. Arizona United SC’s best chance in the first half came in the 27th minute on Tan’s shot that ended up hitting the right side netting.

Up next for Arizona United SC is expansion side the Austin Aztex in the third match of a four-match road trip to start the 2015 USL season. The match will be played on April 11.

Arizona United SC makes its home debut at Scottsdale Stadium on April 25 against the Portland Timbers FC 2 at 7:30 p.m. PT.
