IRVINE, Calif. (April 18, 2015) – Arizona United Soccer Club (3-1-0) suffered its first loss of the 2015 USL season on Saturday night, 3-0, to the Orange County Blues FC at Anteater Stadium.
The loss prevents Arizona United SC from entering its home debut at Scottsdale Stadium on April 25 with a perfect record. The loss also dropped Arizona United SC from the top spot in the Western Conference standings. Arizona is now tied for second place with nine points through four matches.
Orange County Blues FC jumped out to an impressive start and pressured Arizona’s defense from the opening whistle. The breakthrough for OC came in the 33rd minute when Christofer Ramirez headed home a corner kick from Didier Crettenand. Five minutes later, OC doubled its lead on another corner kick. The ball dropped down to the grass and bounced around before Luka Petricevic’s shot found the back of the net.
The second half has been where Arizona has shown its dominance. During the three-match winning streak, Arizona had given up zero goals in the second half. However, Saturday night wasn’t Arizona’s night as OC put the match out of reach with Ramirez’s second goal in the 51st minute.
Arizona continued to put up a good effort over the course of the second half, but couldn’t find a way to breakdown the OC defense.
“We’re looking to get better from tonight,” said Arizona United SC head coach Michael Dellorusso. “We will analyze tonight, get a good week of training, and hopefully get some good results at home.”
Arizona makes its home debut at Scottsdale Stadium on April 25 at 7:30 p.m. PT against the Portland Timbers FC 2. The club recently announced that more than 4,800 tickets have been sold for this highly anticipated match. All fans are encouraged to participate in the club’s Red Out. On Friday, the club announced a special Red Out Package that includes two red Arizona t-shirts with the purchase of four tickets. The package starts at only $60.
