PEORIA, Ariz. (Tuesday, April 21, 2014) – Arizona United Soccer Club forward Jonathan Top has been named USL PRO Player of the Week for Week 5, as he scored the match-winning goal in Arizona United SC’s, 2-1, win against Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday night in front of 3,014 fans at the Peoria Sports Complex. The victory was Arizona United SC’s first win in club history.
The sequence for Top’s match-winning goal started in the 85th minute when he collected a pass on the halfway line, attacked space, and played a through ball to teammate Paolo DelPiccolo. Top then made a clever run up the Sacramento Republic FC midfield, and held up inside the box, as DelPiccolo found Matt Kassel, who curled a cross to the back post. Second half substitute Kadeem Dacres, who made his professional debut in the victory, headed the cross back into the middle of the box for Top, who finished from close-range for his first career USL PRO goal.
Top is joined in the Team of the Week by teammate and Arizona United SC captain Kassel, who filled in at right back for the suspended London Woodberry. In the 35th minute Kassel’s cross set up Brandon Swartzendruber, who found the back of the net for the first goal in Arizona United SC franchise history.
For their efforts on Saturday, Swartzendruber and Dacres both earned USL PRO Team of the Week Honorable Mention.
Saturday’s match was the second of a four-match homestand to start Arizona United SC’s 2014 season.
