RECAP: Arizona United SC Splits Season Series With Sounders 2
Posted on July 12, 2015 7:32 pm by Arizona UnitedTUKWILA, Wash. (July 12, 2015) – Arizona United SC fell to Seattle Sounders FC 2, 4-0, on the road, splitting the season series. Arizona United SC (7-8-1) had won the first meeting between the two clubs, 2-1, back on June 20.
S2 (10-6-2) opened the scoring ledger two minutes into the match. Oalex Anderson cut in front of a shot taken from the top of the box and deflected the ball past United goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski to make it 1-0. Anderson added a second goal in the 14th minute, when he forced a turnover 10 yards outside of the penalty box and then created enough space to fire a far-post shot past the diving Woszczynski.
Woszczynski stood tall in the 23rd minute, denying S2′s Pablo Rossi a point-blank goal with a diving stop to his left. Later, in the 34th minute, Rossi had another shot on frame, this one a rocket from 30 yards away off a free kick, that Woszczynski collected without trouble. The Columbus, Indiana, native made six saves total the entire evening.
S2 added a third goal before halftime, a diving header from Aaron Long off a free kick. Long had come into the game for an injured Anderson. The match’s final goal came off the foot of Rossi in the 58th minute.
The shutout loss snaps Arizona United SC’s five-match streak of tallying at least one goal in a match. The club was 3-2-0 during that stretch. United sits at 7th place in the Western Conference standings with 22 points, one point behind OC Blues FC. The top six teams in the conference make the playoffs.
Arizona United SC goes back on the road Friday, July 17, to square off against the Austin Aztex. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. local time. It will be the third of four meetings between the two clubs this season. United has won the previous two matches by a combined score of 4-2.
