SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Tuesday, December 16, 2014) – Scottsdale Stadium is the new home for Arizona United Soccer Club.
Located in the heart of Downtown Scottsdale, the 22-year old stadium is regarded as one of the best facilities in the Phoenix Metropolitan.
“It is our duty, as the only professional club in Arizona, to open the game to as many people as possible,” said Arizona United Soccer Club General Manager Kevin Stevenson. “We saw an opportunity to move to a more central location, and Scottsdale Stadium offered that. We are also thankful to the Peoria Sports Complex and the City of Peoria. They were both instrumental in helping us form our club in just 29 days, and to hosting Major League Soccer’s LA Galaxy in fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup.”
The second-year franchise wrapped up its inaugural campaign in September, and enjoyed a productive first season. Arizona United SC finished one position shy of a playoff berth, and became the first team from Arizona to advance to the fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup. The club averaged 3,200 fans per game at the Peoria Sports Complex.
The stadium announcement is yet another positive off-season announcement from Arizona United SC. Earlier, the club announced it had resigned defender Scott Morrison, forward Brad Stisser, and All-League Second Team forward Long Tan. The club has also added USL PRO 2011 Defensive Player of the Year Rob Valentino, USL PRO 2012 Rookie of the Year Jose “Chiva” Cuevas, and goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski.
